What is Oolong Tea?
Oolong tea is traditional Chinese tea made from the classic tea plant Camellia sinensis.
Oolong tea, also known as Black Dragon Tea, is the variety most often served in Chinese Restaurants.
There are several oolong tea varieties. Oolong tea tradtionally comes from the Fujian Province in South East China, or directly across the Taiwan Strait from the Taiwan mountains.
Oolong tea is used in a Chinese Ceremony call Gong Fu Cha (Cha meaning tea). Gong fu, or gongfu is sometimes called Kung Fu in English. You may think of Kung Fu as referring simply to martial arts but gongfu implies an expertise in any skill. GongFu Cha would then relate to an expertise in preparing tea.

Herbal teas, including all the teas discussed in these pages, should not be consumed by persons who are pregnant or nursing, unless approved by your health care provider. Herbal teas may vary in their ingredients and some herbal tea components may interfere with other important medications. For example, there is some concern that green tea ingestion during pregnancy may reduce the absorption of folate, an important nutrient in fetal nervous system development.
