A study links Green Tea with reduced risk of Lung Cancer
The study was performed in a
Taiwan hospital and reported in an interview with the study author, Ms. Lin, in Internal Medicine News February 2010.
In the study, current and former smokers had a significantly reduced risk of lung cancer if they were in the group that reported drinking at least one cup of green tea daily. Patient-reported green tea ingestion was associated with lower lung cancer rates even in patients known to carry susceptible gene profiles for lung cancer.
This study is NOT recommending drinking green tea instead of stopping smoking! But rather, it suggests green tea may have use an an adjuvant protectant against lung cancer.
The study is limited at is it only one report and the green tea ingestion was based on memory, not actually quantified.

Herbal teas, including all the teas discussed in these pages, should not be consumed by persons who are pregnant or nursing, unless approved by your health care provider. Herbal teas may vary in their ingredients and some herbal tea components may interfere with other important medications. For example, there is some concern that green tea ingestion during pregnancy may reduce the absorption of folate, an important nutrient in fetal nervous system development.
